The HUD gives distance in blocks, a plain-word direction (ahead, behind, left, right), and whether the target is above or below you. If the animal wanders off after the scan, the HUD keeps pointing at where it was found — not a live position.

Seal of Fauna
An honest answer to “is anything alive near me?”
Why it exists
Not a radar. Not a live tracker. A straight answer read from what is already loaded in the world right now: is anything alive near me, of the species I asked for?
What it does
Craft the Seal of Fauna, right-click to open the catalog, pick a species, and scan. It checks the terrain already loaded around you and reports how many it found and where the nearest one is.
No hardcoded species list. Tabs come from vanilla MobCategory: Terrestrial, Aquatic and Ambient. Monsters, villagers and golems are excluded. Animals from other mods appear in the right tab with nothing to configure.
Each scan costs 1 XP (free in Creative) and has a 20-second cooldown. The Advanced Seal of Fauna pays that cost in the recipe instead: 0 XP and a 5-second cooldown afterward.
How it fits
It only reads what the world already loaded. Any entity from any mod that fits vanilla’s fauna categories is picked up automatically. The Pergamena della Fauna drops from village butcher chests and jungle temple chests (15% per chest). Still available from the Creative inventory.
